Gilead Sciences (GILD) will report first quarter fiscal 2018 earnings results after Tuesday’s closing bell. With its shares falling some 14% in three months, a solid beat on both the top and bottom lines would be just what the doctor ordered.
However, increased competition from the likes of Merck (MRK) and AbbVie (ABBV) have pressured Gilead’s HCV revenues, resulting in declining sales in Harvoni and Sovaldi. In that vein, on Tuesday Wall Street will want the company to assuage investor fears about its competitive position.
For the quarter that ended in March, the Foster City, Calif.-based company is projected to earn $1.67 per share on revenue of $5.4 billion. This compares to the year-ago quarter when earnings came to $2.23 per share on revenue of $6.5 billion. For the full year, ending in December, earnings are projected to be $6.47 per share, down from $8.84 a year ago, while full-year revenue of $21.29 billion would mark a decline of 18.4% year over year.
