Nasdaq Futures Updates

Stock futures are relatively stable this morning following the S&P 500’s record high close on Friday, as investors brace for a week filled with significant economic data and earnings reports. Futures associated with the S&P 500 and the technology-focused Nasdaq experienced a modest increase of 0.1%, whereas futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average saw a slight decline of 0.1%. The major indexes recorded their most significant weekly increases since April last week, with the Dow and the S&P 500 achieving a succession of record highs. The earnings reporting schedule is relatively sparse today; however, it is set to intensify in the coming days. The significant occurrence on the economic calendar will be the release of the CPI inflation report on Wednesday, which will assist in shaping market expectations regarding the Federal Reserve’s actions on interest rates.

The unexpectedly weak July jobs report released on Friday alleviated investor apprehensions regarding an imminent increase in the Fed’s key interest rate; however, a robust inflation figure could potentially reignite those concerns. SpaceX shares were up more than 2% in premarket trading, on track to move above their $135 IPO price for the first time since July 16. The stock, which reached a historic low last week following the company’s initial quarterly results since its public debut in mid-June, experienced an increase of over 20% in the last two sessions. Among other mega-cap technology stocks, Meta Platforms rose more than 2%, after CEO Mark Zuckerberg released a lengthy essay detailing his vision for AI.

However, prices have since rebounded to approximately $80 as optimism diminishes. Gold futures remained stable at just under $4,400 an ounce this morning, while bitcoin showed minimal movement, hovering around $65,000, following a subdued weekend of trading for the cryptocurrency. The yield on the 10-year Treasury stood at 4.67%, reflecting an increase from Friday’s close of 4.65%. The yield, which influences interest rates across various types of loans, fell to as low as 4.60% on Friday morning following the release of the jobs data.
