Meanwhile, oil prices exhibited minimal fluctuations despite the escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, as Iran indicated its intention to engage in diplomatic discussions with the U.S. Futures for the Nasdaq 100, S&P 500, and Dow Jones Industrial Average showed increases of 0.7%, 0.3%, and 0.2%, respectively, in recent trading. Last week, the tech-focused Nasdaq Composite experienced a decline of 2.9%, while the benchmark S&P 500 recorded a drop of 1.6%, and the blue-chip Dow decreased by 0.9%. This marked the first instance since the week of June 5 that all three indices reported weekly losses.
Earnings season intensifies this week, with members of the Magnificent Seven, Alphabet and Tesla, both reporting results after the closing bell Wednesday. Shares of all of the septet but Apple ended in the red Friday, marking the second consecutive day that tech stocks have driven markets lower. Domino’s Pizza shares rose 5% premarket after the company issued its second-quarter results. AMC Entertainment was also set to report earnings before the bell. Elsewhere, U.S.-listed shares of Alibaba Group rose 4% after the Chinese tech giant unveiled its Qwen3.8 Max AI model, which it said was second only to Anthropic’s Fable 5.
Oil prices experienced an uptick early Monday following the deaths of three American servicemen over the weekend due to Iranian military strikes, alongside ongoing U.S. attacks on Iranian infrastructure. However, they altered their position following a statement from an Iranian spokesman indicating that intermediaries between the nations were still engaged in message exchanges. In recent trading, West Texas Intermediate futures, the U.S. benchmark, experienced a decline of 0.2% to $82.35 a barrel, whereas Brent crude futures, the global benchmark, increased by 0.5% to $88.55 a barrel.
The 10-year Treasury yield, a key determinant of interest rates across various consumer loans such as mortgages, stood at approximately 4.56%, reflecting an increase of one basis point from the previous Friday’s close. Bitcoin was trading around 64,200, down slightly over the past 24 hours. The U.S. dollar index, which monitors the value of the greenback relative to a selection of foreign currencies, remained relatively unchanged at 100.88. Gold futures increased by 0.2%, reaching $4,025 per ounce.
