Stock futures exhibited minimal variation on Friday in anticipation of a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh. Meanwhile, equities associated with the AI sector experienced a decline following Marvell Technology’s forward guidance, which fell short of investors’ elevated expectations. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average indicated a modest increase of 0.1%, while Nasdaq 100 futures experienced a decline of 0.2%. At 10 a.m., investors will direct their attention to a speech from Warsh at the Kansas City Fed’s annual Jackson Hole economic policy symposium, where he may elucidate his perspective on interest rates. Traders assign a 36% probability to the Federal Reserve raising interest rates at its upcoming meeting, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch tool. Ahead of the speech, the yield on the 10-year Treasury, which influences interest rates on a variety of consumer loans including mortgages, was above 4.69%, up about two basis points from Thursday’s close. Following a robust performance yesterday, the three primary U.S. stock indexes appeared set to achieve weekly gains.

As of Friday, the Nasdaq Composite, S&P 500, and Dow exhibited increases of 1.4%, 0.7%, and 0.5%, respectively. All three indices concluded the week with losses, as the Nasdaq and S&P 500 ended their three-week streaks of gains, while the Dow recorded a decline for the second consecutive week. Yesterday, technology shares propelled indexes upward following Nvidia’s report of better-than-expected second-quarter results, culminating in a nearly 9% increase in its stock price. The S&P 500 closed up 0.7%, buoyed by a 3.4% gain from the Information Technology Sector, which was the sole sector to finish the day in positive territory. Salesforce soared 23% to lead the S&P 500 and Dow, while CrowdStrike Holdings jumped 20% to pace the Nasdaq 100. After the bell, however, the earnings report from Marvell Technology disappointed investors even though its top- and bottom-line results and current-quarter projections topped analysts’ estimates.

The data-infrastructure semiconductor company experienced a decline of 7.5% in premarket trading, with several other firms in the chip sector also witnessing decreases. Micron Technology and Intel saw respective drops of 1.5% and 2%, while Nvidia experienced a slight downturn. Aside from Nvidia, the other Magnificent Seven mega-cap tech stocks exhibited a slight upward trend before the bell, although they remained largely unchanged. The Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF was up 0.3% in recent trading. Shares of PayPal Holdings sank 14% following a report from Bloomberg, which cited sources familiar with the situation, indicating that Advent and Stripe had ceased their pursuit of a deal for the fintech firm after having previously offered more than $50 billion for the company. Gap stock soared 18% after the retailer appointed a new CEO of its struggling Old Navy brand.

U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude oil prices have experienced a decline of nearly 5% this week, currently standing 0.8% lower at approximately $83 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent crude futures, recognised as the global benchmark, have decreased by 0.4% to $89.30. Bitcoin recently traded at $79,600, a decline from overnight peaks close to $81,400. The U.S. dollar index, which monitors the value of the greenback against a basket of foreign currencies, remained relatively stable at 99.20.Gold futures declined by 0.3%, settling at $4,650 per ounce.
