Nasdaq Futures Updates

Nasdaq futures indicated an upward trajectory on Friday, with the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 set to achieve weekly gains, coinciding with a decline in oil prices and Treasury yields. However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was on track for its fourth consecutive weekly decline. In recent trading, futures for the Nasdaq 100, S&P 500, and Dow exhibited increases of 0.5%, 0.3%, and 0.2%, respectively. Yesterday, the blue-chip Dow experienced a decline for the third consecutive session, influenced by rising oil prices and Treasury yields reaching a new 19-year high. Meanwhile, the benchmark S&P 500 concluded slightly lower, while the tech-focused Nasdaq Composite finished marginally higher. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 concluded Friday with weekly gains of 1.6% and 0.7%, respectively, whereas the Dow experienced a decline of 0.6%.

The 10-year Treasury yield, a key indicator for various interest rates such as mortgages, corporate bonds, and other loans, recently stood at approximately 5.18%, reflecting a decline of nearly three basis points from Thursday’s closing figure. Nevertheless, the yield has increased by approximately 18 basis points this week, reaching its highest level since 2007 yesterday. Oil prices experienced a decline on Friday, following a report from Reuters indicating that discussions took place between the U.S. and Iran regarding a potential agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate prices declined by 1.8%, falling below $93 a barrel, whereas Brent crude futures, the international benchmark, experienced a decrease of 1.1%, approaching $105.50.

Shares of Akamai Technologies soared 23% in premarket trading after it announced that Anthropic had committed to paying it at least $11.6 billion over seven years for cloud infrastructure and software, with the potential for a $9 billion expansion. Meta Platforms shares ticked higher after surging 4.5% Thursday to approach their all-time high after CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other executives introduced new AI products at the company’s Connect developer conference. The Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF pointed up 0.4%. Shares of People Incorporated jumped 11% after The Wall Street Journal reported that MGM Resorts International was discussing a bid to buy it.

People Incorporated holds a 27% stake in MGM, whose stock declined by 11% yesterday following the withdrawal of a proposal by Investopedia’s parent company to acquire all remaining shares of the gaming company and take it private. MGM shares experienced an uptick prior to the market opening. Costco Wholesale shares edged lower following the company’s earnings report. Bitcoin was trading around 84,700, up slightly over the past 24 hours. The U.S. dollar index, which monitors the value of the greenback relative to a selection of foreign currencies, registered a decline of 0.2%, settling at 101.04. Gold futures experienced an increase of 1.1%, reaching a price of $4,345 per ounce.
