Nasdaq Futures Updates

Stock futures indicated an upward trajectory following a week characterised by significant fluctuations in major indexes. Tech shares took the lead, with Amazon experiencing a significant rise following the better-than-anticipated results reported by the Magnificent Seven company. Futures for the Nasdaq 100, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and S&P 500 exhibited increases of 1.1%, 0.4%, and 0.3%, respectively, in the latest trading session. Yesterday, the tech-focused Nasdaq Composite, benchmark S&P 500, and blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average experienced a notable rebound, closing up by 2.8%, 1.7%, and 1.2% respectively, with the Dow increasing by 600 points. The Nasdaq, Dow, and S&P 500 entered Friday with respective weekly gains of 0.6%, 0.5%, and 0.3%. This week also saw a sell-off on Wednesday following the Federal Reserve’s decision to maintain interest rates amid ongoing inflation concerns.

Indexes experienced an uplift due to an 11% premarket surge in shares of Amazon, with its results significantly supported by the performance of its cloud-computing division. However, shares of fellow Magnificent Seven tech giant Apple sank 7.5% after weaker-than-expected services revenue. Yesterday, Microsoft shares surged 16% to lead the Dow following its results late Wednesday, which exceeded analysts’ expectations. This remarkable performance added $450 billion to the company’s market capitalisation, marking a one-day record for any firm. Shares slipped less than 1% before the bell, while those of Meta Platforms pointed 1.5% higher after sinking 8% Thursday.

The Roundhill Memory ETF and broader iShares Semiconductor ETF experienced increases of approximately 5% and 4%, respectively, prior to the market opening, following significant gains of 16% and 8.5% the previous day. Memory stocks Sandisk, Micron Technology, Seagate Technology, and Western Digital experienced an increase of 4.5% to 6% following a notable surge of between 11% and 26% on Thursday. Oil prices experienced a slight increase as traders evaluated the most recent developments in the Middle East. U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate futures experienced an increase of 1.4%, reaching $84.75 per barrel in recent trading, while the global benchmark Brent crude futures saw a rise of 1.1%, climbing to $90. WTI and Brent prices have experienced a decline of approximately 5% and 9% this week.

The 10-year Treasury yield, a key determinant of interest rates across various consumer loans such as mortgages, was observed to be above 4.68% in recent trading, reflecting a modest increase from Thursday’s closing value. Bitcoin was trading at approximately 63,900, a decline from the overnight peak of about 65,300. The U.S. dollar index, which monitors the value of the greenback relative to a selection of foreign currencies, registered an increase of 0.4%, reaching 100.25. Gold futures experienced a decline of 1.2%, settling at $4,110 per ounce.
