Nasdaq futures indicated an upward trajectory on Monday, marking the commencement of a new month of trading, as oil prices experienced a decline following President Donald Trump’s announcement that he had aborted intended military actions against Iran. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq 100 experienced increases of 1%, 0.6%, and 0.4%, respectively, in recent trading sessions. Oil prices declined following Trump’s statement on Truth Social yesterday, indicating that he was postponing any military action against Iran, “subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL” to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate futures experienced a decline of nearly 6%, settling at approximately $79.65 a barrel in recent trading. Meanwhile, global benchmark Brent crude futures decreased by 5%, reaching $83.50.
Also declining was the 10-year Treasury yield, which affects interest rates on a range of consumer loans, including mortgages. It recently stood at approximately 4.68%, reflecting a decline of nearly six basis points from its closing value on Friday, when it reached its peak level since January 2025. On Friday, the tech-focused Nasdaq Composite, benchmark S&P 500, and blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average concluded a turbulent week of trading on an upward trajectory; however, only the Dow managed to close in positive territory for the month of July. This week, investors will be focused on the U.S. employment report for July, due Friday, as well as corporate earnings reports from the likes of Palantir today and SpaceX, McDonald’s, and Advanced Micro Devices tomorrow.
Palantir shares experienced an increase of 2.5% in anticipation of its results scheduled for release after the market’s close. Amazon shares, which jumped 15% to lead the three indexes Friday after the Magnificent Seven tech giant posted strong cloud-computing results, indicated a further increase of 1.5% before the bell. Apple shares, which sank 7% to lead S&P 500 and Nasdaq decliners last session, ticked higher premarket. Shares of Bristol Myers Squibb surged more than 6% following a report that the U.S. pharmaceutical giant was in talks to combine with AstraZeneca. Those of the UK-based firm declined by 5.5%.
Marriott International shares declined 3.5% following the hotel giant’s report of weaker-than-expected revenue. The U.S. dollar index, which monitors the value of the greenback relative to a selection of foreign currencies, decreased to 99.84. The dollar weakened against the yen following coordinated efforts by the U.S. and Japan to support the latter, which had reached a 40-year low against the greenback. Bitcoin was trading around 62,600, down modestly over the past 24 hours. Gold futures declined to $4,100 an ounce.
